Award-winning lakeside conference hotel

The magazine “Tagen in Österreich” (Meetings in Austria) does an annual survey of meeting and event hotels throughout the country. The poll draws on the opinions of thousands of event organisers, trainers, personal developers and conference participants, because no one – not even a jury of experts – can judge customer satisfaction more objectively than customers themselves. To date, the Hotel Karnerhof has been awarded the “Golden Flipchart” seven times, honouring us as the single most popular conference hotel in Carinthia. We’re immensely proud of this, and the achievement inspires us to continue living up to the highest standards of quality possible.

Last year the entire service team went to the Climbing Park on the Tabor heights. Spending the afternoon on the climbing course and then finishing with a break on the terrace overlooking the Faaker See was a lot of fun for us all.

Team-building activities

The 10-hectare (25-acre) Karnerhof grounds, the Faaker See and the natural grandeur of Carinthia combine to make a wonderful setting for a programme full of interesting activities. Your team can relax after a hard day of work and build important relationships.

Water programme: explore the Faaker See and the Drau River by canoe

An experienced canoer will lead your team from the Karnerhof’s beach to a variety of secret locations along the shores of the Faaker See. You’ll get to know the lake from a new perspective, exploring the extensive reedy marshland with its fascinating flora and fauna. Your team will enjoy a unique experience in nature at the foot of the Karawank Mountains and the Mittagskogel peak.

A longer trip along the Drau River presents a more formidable challenge. The route leads through the charming town of Villach, also nicknamed “Drau City,” and enables your team to experience the area from a unique viewpoint on the water. The journey ends with a traditional Carinthian “Brettljause”, a hearty platter of local cold-cuts, vegetables and cheese, served by a local organic farmer.

Water programme: Stand-up paddling – trendy sport in Austria’s southernmost bathing lake

The trendy new sport of stand-up paddling (SUP) has grown increasingly popular over the last few years. You actually stand on a type of surfboard and then explore the lake by paddling. You’ll get a short introduction to the technique on the Karnerhof’s own private beach. With the right board and paddle, the sport is easy to pick up and will prove an interesting new experience for many participants.

Stand-up paddling promotes a sense of balance and team coordination, and makes for a relaxing contrast to a heavy day of concentration in a meeting room. If your aim is to truly free up cluttered minds, after the leisurely paddling course you might also want to book an hour of hatha yoga.

Forest programme: Team-building at the Hochhinaus Climbing Park on the Tabor heights

Climbing, clambering and balancing on our local mountain by the Faaker See: the Hochhinauf Climbing Park offers a unique team-building experience in the deep green Carinthian forest on the high slopes of the Tabor, rising majestically above the village of Egg am Faaker See.

You and your team balance your way along ropes stretched between the trees, and step across swinging bridges or jump from platform to platform. This programme offers fun, entertainment and exercise in the fresh mountain air of Carinthia – all while enjoying views of the Faaker See and the surrounding Alpine landscape. Six different courses, each with six to eleven different stations, offer a wide range of varied challenges. Your team members will have to work together and depend on each other in order to successfully complete the route. Qualified trainers accompany you through this team-building exercise while also ensuring your complete safety.

After all the strenuous activity, your team will then enjoy a stop for refreshments at the Tabor mountain hut, a charming restaurant surrounded by woodland, with a panorama view into the valley and over the Faaker See.

Programme in the hotel: Wine-tasting with cellar tour

After a productive meeting day, set off from the shores of the Faaker See on a tour of the most beautiful wine-producing regions of Europe. We’ll welcome your team to one of the best-stocked wine cellars of Carinthia, where the Melcher/Karner family and qualified sommelier Franz Egger keep a selection of the very best wines in store, with emphasis on vintages from Austria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Bordeaux and Burgundy.

This culinary programme begins with a tour of the wine cellar, brimming with atmosphere thanks to the red brick walls that offer the fine wines a worthy home. Franz Egger, Karnerhof’s sommelier will lead you in sampling a range of carefully selected wines, while sharing his insights on specific sites, grape varieties and notable wine-growing areas, as well as wine production and culture. The wine-tasting is a great opportunity to test and train your participants’ sense of taste and smell. Upon request, the tour can also include a wine-tasting game, which will help to identify and honour the wine experts in your team. We serve fresh bread and cheese to accompany the wine-tasting.
