Water sports on Lake Faaker See.

With temperatures of up to 27 degrees Celsius and a variety of water sports options, Lake Faaker See draws guests of the Karnerhof into the great outdoors. The hotel's own private beach with sailing school on Lake Faaker See is an ideal starting point for your water sports adventures.

Warm pebbles under the soles of your feet.

Crystal-clear water laps at your toes. Your gaze wanders over the turquoise-blue lake, the lush green of the forests and the steep slopes of the mountains. No motorboats disturb the idyll - these noisemakers are banned on Lake Faaker See. Instead the sounds of children laughing, kicking and snorting - under the watchful eyes of the swimming instructor and grandparents - during their first try at swimming. Birdsong. Two royal blue dragonflies buzzing over the surface of the water like little sparkling helicopters. A light breeze. A sailboat picks up speed and two stand-up paddlers pass by on their boards. A young couple deftly climbs out of the rowboat.

For me, a leisurely row in the early evening - when the lake becomes quiet and settles down for the night - is the perfect way to relax and reflect on the day.

Alfred Karner

Swimming in Austria's southernmost bathing lake

The Karnerhof private beach: 40 metres of pebble beach, with spacious sunbathing lawns behind and around it. Two wooden jetties extend directly into the lake. If you want to take it easy, you can walk step by step from the shore. Daredevils jump in at the end of the landing. Experienced swimmers plough through the clear water at a brisk pace. They rest on two bathing pontoons, 50 metres and 100 metres off the bathing beach. The youngest guests prepare for their first laps in the lake with a swimming course for kids in the indoor pool. Ask at reception for dates and prices.

Tip: Lake crossing

Weekly during the summer months: Accompanied by the water rescue service, you can swim the 1,100 metres from the island in Lake Faaker See back to the Karnerhof.

Surfing and sailing with a unique mountain panorama as backdrop.

At full speed on the surfboard in the middle of Lake Faaker See: be brave and lift your eyes. It's worth it. In front of you the majestic mountain ranges of the Karawank mountains, below you shimmering turquoise-blue water.

Kids and beginners as well as advanced surfers and sailors all feel at home on Lake Faaker See. The good wind conditions make sure of that. You can rent sailboats and surfboards at the Lake Faaker See surfing and sailing school, right on the Karnerhof premises. In courses you can learn the right manoeuvres from professionals.

Stand-up-paddling Lake Faaker See
Canoeing Lake Faaker See

Stand-up paddling (= SUP) over turquoise blue waves.

Sliding across the water while standing up. With a stand-up paddling (SUP) board you can experience and discover Lake Faaker See from a completely new perspective. Effortlessly, the SUP board takes you to places that are inaccessible for pedestrians, too distant for swimmers and impossible to navigate for sailors. Thanks to your upright position, you always have a wonderful overview and view. Suitable for experts and beginners, SUP isn't just fun from the moment you start, but it also promotes balance and endurance.

Kayaking and canoeing in gorgeous natural surroundings

Explore Lake Faaker See and its shoreline regions by paddle. In a kayak or canoe. The journey takes you across the lake into the densely overgrown reed belt, with the current through Lake Faaker See serving as your path. Ducklings and great crested grebes peer at their visitors. Along the waterway, you'll find carpets of water lilies in shades of white and pink, narrow curves and hidden bays.

Book courses and guided tours for beginners and advanced paddlers at the Kajakcenter Faaker See, or set off and explore the waters on your own.

Rowboat on calm waters

Comfortable. Romantic. In a rowboat or pedal boat, you can enjoy the atmosphere on Lake Faaker See in a particularly leisurely way. In the gentle spring or golden autumn, boat trips are particularly enjoyable. Rowboats can be rented free of charge at the Karnerhof's private beach. Pedal boats are available at a charge from the Pepi surf and sailing school.
