Lake Faaker See in the sunlight. Gentle waves. A sparkling turquoise glimmer. The fifth largest lake in Carinthia is a natural jewel. And it doesn't just shine on the surface - it also impresses with its drinking water quality. That makes it all the more fun to plunge into the waters, which can reach 27° C in high summer, during a family holiday in Carinthia. For the little ones, this means dashing across the meadow, along the jetty and taking a running jump into the warm water. Keep an eye out for pike and perch while snorkelling. Splashing, playing and discovering. Anywhere you can.
For the adults, besides the water fun, it's often the moments of immersion and relaxation that make the time at Karnerhof so very special: Unwinding in your favourite shady spot. Taking a few leisurely laps in the water. Exploring the lake for yourself while kayaking, canoeing or stand-up paddling. Gliding almost silently over the water in our electric boat, the "Seerose". Following the natural path through the reeds. Letting your gaze wander, peacful and relaxed.
A cosy retreat, close to nature. For families. Created with joy. Warmly managed. This is the Karnerhof. Every family has its own unique requirements. That's why you can choose between spacious double rooms, suites and family apartments of up to 70 square metres at the Karnerhof family hotel. And even if the sun doesn't shine: With indoor swimming pool, table tennis tables, wellness area and play corners, there's always plenty of ways to pass the time.
In July and August, our childcare staff is available six days a week to look after kids aged three and up. Running, laughing and playing with others in the midst of nature, exploring the hotel's own herb garden with the kitchen chef, or putting on a show together - every day is a new adventure.
The family meal together: high point of the day on a family holiday in Carinthia Cuisine at the Karnerhof is both close to home and open to the world. Chef Peter Brandstätter will take you on a gourmet journey through Carinthia and the Alps-Adriatic region. A journey to the people and tastes of this three-country triangle. Travel to traditional food producers. Experience their know-how, their traditional handiwork, passed down through the generations. He also brings zest to the plates of the little ones with scrumptious children's menus. By the way, there's one thing that's always served with the meal, whether it's in your room or on the spacious terraces at the Karnerhof: the impressive view of Lake Faaker See and the Karawank mountains.
A current RegioPlan forecast shows: When it comes to gift-giving, the clear trend is towards "time over stuff". Because we all have enough of things. It's the so-called time that we're often lacking. Work-life balance, slowing down and conscious time-outs with the family are gaining in importance and in value. In her book "Living Simply with Children", Marie Sherlock aptly describes how people often just aren't able to enjoy the here and now at the press of a button. Often it's simply a question of actually taking enough time on holiday - enough time to arrive, time to get into it all, and time for its own sake. Especially with children, it can take a while to get into the flow - and to experience unbridled joy at the simplest things: bathing, splashing around, and simply being together. Here at the Karnerhof, everyone finds enjoyment: big and small, young and not-so-young, parents, children, grandparents and great-grandparents!
Many people lose“
the small joys
in the hope for the big happiness.
At some point, as the younger ones grow up, it becomes a question of juggling the holiday needs of the small, medium & large while also answering the question: Do the teenagers still come on the family holiday, or is a vacation with friends on the cards? At the Karnerhof, both are possible. Located directly on the shores of Lake Faaker See with the nearly limitless leisure activities of the Alps-Adriatic region and our expansive 10-hectare hotel grounds, our holiday offer for teenagers is truly impressive. Suddenly, a family holiday can even be an attractive option for your teenager. On top of that, it's really easy to make new friends quickly here.
Kids and teens just love action. Plus, it's exciting to learn and check out new things. With its warm temperatures and Caribbean flair, Lake Faaker See is the ideal place for adventures in and around the water. The good wind conditions invite you to learn surfing or sailing - and tempt the more advanced to surf the waves and try out exciting manoeuvres. With the Karawank mountains and the majestic Mittagskogel as a backdrop, you can rent sailboats and surfboards at the Pepi surfing and sailing school, right in our private lakeside resort, and take both beginner and advanced courses.
Sliding across the water on a stand-up paddle board is also an interesting option. Quick and easy to learn, stand-up paddling gives youngsters the opportunity to explore the lake together with friends or the whole family, head for small bays, and enjoy your swimming adventures together.
You can also easily explore the lake by canoe or kayak. Experience the abundance of bird life in the reed belt and the many water lilies up close. Courses are available at the Kajak Center Faaker See, including guided tours for both beginners and advanced kayakers.
Tennis is 'in' again with young people. Since Austrian athletes have made it to the very top of the tennis world, tennis is back in vogue for kids and teens. At Karnerhof, a total of 4 clay courts are available for playing, winning and also for strenuous training sessions. Anyone who wants to take their first lessons or brush up on their game can get tips and tricks from our trainer. We have a wide range of courses tailored for beginners as well as advanced players.
Hiking and cycling in all their varieties and degrees of difficulty are possible around the Karnerhof. Around the lake and around the region, there await a variety of themed hiking routes such as the Alpe Adria Trail - and for climbing enthusiasts, the Kanzianiberg climbing park with almost 400 routes with difficulty levels ranging from 3 to 10, including a climbing school and practice parcourse.
Cycling freaks can also set out on adventure-packed tours, routes, trails and tours directly from the hotel. Whether by mountain bike, road bike or e-bike, Carinthia is a true Eldorado for bikers. There are also four e-bikes available for rent at the Karnerhof.
A real adventure awaits both young and old at the Hochhinauf forest rope climbing park. Since 2009, this fun and adventure park on Lake Faaker See with its magnificent panoramic views has ensured exciting and varied days for the whole family. In this rope climbing park you can practice climbing at heights of up to 20 metres high on 9 different parcourse circuits through the forest.
Plenty of bow-and-arrow fun and action awaits you at the 3D Archery Park, with its 24 stations featuring three-dimensional animals. At Adventure Golf, you'll find 18 holes that are beautifully integrated into the natural surroundings, inviting you to go 'full swing' as you hunt for the local eagle.
As the name suggests, footgolf is a combination of football (soccer) and golf. The aim is to get the ball past obstacles on a course and into the hole. This demands ball handling skills, dexterity and concentration. The perfect holiday experience for the whole family. The course in Drobollach near the Karnerhof, has 18 holes and a wonderful panoramic view of the lake.
In Drobollach you'll also find a beautiful, well-maintained mini-golf course with 18 holes, for anyone who savours golf in its many varieties.
