Autumn holiday in Carinthia on an Alpine lake.
LAKE-SOUL in living colour.
The spectacular colour palette of the surrounding autumn forests, the craggy rock massif of the Mittagskogel and the dark turquoise water vie for the attention of people who long for relaxation or adventure in these almost mystical surroundings.
If you're looking for the ideal starting point to explore the mild temperatures on the south side of the Alps in Carinthia's idyllic lakes, there's no better address than the Karnerhof. And although there is no reason at all to leave the extensive tradition-rich hotel complex with all its amenities, the surrounding region offers a thousand tempting reasons to do so.
Every month a world of its own.
Dreams of winter approaching. The days grow shorter, the forests of Carinthia clothe themselves in the colourful hues of autumn - and yet September is often a last finale of summer with the beauty of spring
The sun is shining, the air is warm and in most years, it's possible to swim in Lake Faaker See well into the ninth month of the year. At the Karnerhof, the harvest festival and the popular Weißwurst golf tournament take place in September
In October, Carinthia's nature appears romantic and colourful. The forests around the Karnerhof glow in copper reds, mustard yellows, golds and browns. Lake Faaker See lies quietly at the foot of the Karawank mountains. Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts come to cycle, hike and golf. The clear days allow for breathtaking, clear long-range views.
The highest Karawank mountain peaks are covered in their first snow. The lake is absolutely still, a mist hovers over the water. In the warm interior of the Karnerhof, you make yourself comfortable by the fireplace or in the sauna. November is goose season and many Carinthian inns serve the traditional roast goose with red cabbage, potato dumplings and cranberries.
Carinthia's autumnal culinary delights.
Game, duck, mushrooms and fine wines.
As we all know, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, and we remain convinced that this also applies when we're on holiday. Whether it's braised duck leg on porcini mushroom potato cakes and Jerusalem artichokes with grape sauce, roast goose on baked red cabbage with glazed chestnuts and herb potato dumplings or iced plum dumplings with vanilla foam and cinnamon biscuits for dessert: at the Karnerhof, you'll find the taste of autumn right on your plate. Here, the culinary seasons are celebrated with the best of the region; everything which nature presents us after a beautiful summer: venison, duck and goose, with porcini mushrooms and chanterelles, sauerkraut and cabbage, sweet chestnut, pumpkin, trout and much more.
The variety of flavours from this region can easily compete with the rich colour palette of autumn. Here you're on holiday in the land of culinary delights, in the land of innovative producers who focus on the essentials and bring premium quality to the table.

Indeed, because in two hours by car you can find yourself either sipping a cappuccino on the Italian Adriatic or a delicious gibanica on the Slovenian coast. The path to the dolce vita in the popular Italian shopping and strolling town of Tarvis or to the pulsating cities like Ljubljana, Trieste or Udine is even shorter. Hospitality and openness unite the people here in the Alps-Adriatic region, who share the treasures of their countries with their guests with equal fondness and passion.
