The Alpe-Adria region.
Vacation at the intersection of three cultures.
Where Austria, Italy and Slovenia meet, the influences of three cultures merge into a special living space that also presents itself as an exceptional place to enjoy. Carinthia, Slovenia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia: three countries, three regions, three cultures. Each unique and yet closely connected - in terms of customs, lifestyle and, of course, cuisine. In the border triangle, you can hear three languages and experience three cultures in one day, look down from high mountain peaks onto an idyllic lake landscape and enjoy a cappuccino on the Mediterranean. Here you will find all the ingredients for an unforgettable vacation in the heart of Europe.
The variety of flavors of the Alps-Adriatic region has developed from the hospitality of the past centuries as well as from the innovative and creative talent of the new generations. The triad of mountain - lake - sea is the basis for an extraordinary culinary and experience quality that is well worth exploring. So it's no wonder that southern temperament and alpine down-to-earthness have produced the most delicious dishes. It is no coincidence that Carinthian Kasnudeln resemble Italian ravioli. And the Carinthian Reindling is also known as Gubana in Friuli and Pohača in Slovenia. The region places great value on traditional preparations and fresh, regional products. Friuli is ahead when it comes to wine, but Carinthia - where vine cultivation has been documented since 888 - and Slovenia are catching up with ever better red and white wines.
The people in the Alps-Adriatic region are close to their homeland and tradition-conscious, yet open and hospitable. Lively cities such as Ljubljana, Trieste and Udine are just a stone's throw away. Thanks to its location on the southern side of the Alps, the pleasant climate with many hours of sunshine makes the southern lifestyle tangible. The Carinthian cities of Klagenfurt and Villach also have a Mediterranean feel. Here, a borderless Europe is truly lived: Carinthians travel to the Italian border town of Tarvis for a quick lunch, Italians come to Lake Wörthersee for an evening at the casino.
