Spring vacation in Carinthia.
Lake Faak, when nature awakens.
Actually, everything gets better in spring, longer, more colorful, stronger, milder, more Mediterranean. So it would only be logical for our energy levels to improve too. Unfortunately, the opposite is often the case. The famous spring fatigue sets in. Life in temperate climates requires constant adaptation to a wide variety of situations. Humans and animals regulate their metabolism according to light and temperature. This constant adaptation to the environment keeps body and mind alert. In winter, our organism also goes into a kind of "mini-hibernation". Our core temperature is lower than in summer, our metabolism calms down and we are less active. That's why an early spring vacation is like a natural freshness kick. A seasonal vitamin booster with lots of sun, exercise and enjoyment.
Nature awakens and beckons you to go on short or long hikes around the Karnerhof. Afterwards, pure wellness is the order of the day. With far-reaching views and a great sense of well-being. Chilling out, sauna, relaxing, massages, beauty treatments and a dip or two in the infinity pool - or even in the lake - are all on offer.

Spring bathing in Lake Faak.
Lake Faak is around 6° in March, rises to around 8 to 10° in April and then climbs steadily in May and June until it reaches its summer temperature of 24 to 26° C in July and August. At the beginning of spring, these are already very cool temperatures for a relaxing dip in the really cool water. However, this almost-ice bathing does not leave even a healthy body cold, so there are a few points to bear in mind before and during the cold swim:
- Untrained or inexperienced swimmers should approach the icy water slowly with cold showers.
- Breathe in slowly and evenly during cold showers and ice baths: regular breathing is essential to prevent pain during immersion.
- Do not jump into the cold water, always approach it slowly.
- To avoid hypothermia, do not stay in the water for longer than five minutes.
- Neoprene shoes and neoprene gloves protect hands and feet from frostbite.
- Do not immerse your head and hair under water.
- Bathe in groups so that you can react better in the event of problems.
- Dress warmly after bathing, wrap up in a hat and avoid getting cold outdoors.
- Allow the body time to regenerate.
- If everything is done correctly, ice bathing does not harm the body and can strengthen the immune system. Children, teenagers and older people should refrain from ice bathing due to their physical condition. To prevent possible negative consequences, a doctor should be consulted before ice bathing. If everything is in order, follow the tips and tricks mentioned above and get into the cold water.

Spring cuisine with a view.
Colorful, fresh, cheerful, varied - makes you want more.
Green asparagus joins the fresh wild garlic - and peas vie with the first radishes for the lead in spring vitamins. Fruit cuisine is not neglected either, as the strawberry season is in full swing. The red delicacies come straight from the region - freshly picked and served on your plate. Whether as sorbet, fruit slices or fruit sauce, the main thing is that it tastes good.
The terrace season finally starts again in spring. Even the breakfast cappuccino tastes particularly relaxed when the Mittagskogel is gently reflected in the turquoise-blue Faaker See in the morning light. Lunch is also enchanting and adds a cool touch to the midday heat thanks to the Caribbean blue-green, which intensifies the vacation mood by another dimension. And the daily lakeside terrace events continue. The snack at 4 o'clock also tastes particularly fresh and delicious with a view of the lake, before the daily gourmet 5-course dinner with the lake panorama provides a wonderful stage for culinary delights from 18:30.
Easter around the Karnerhof.
Easter is a time of traditions and lore.
Since the first Council of Nicaea a good 1700 years ago, Western Christianity has agreed on the timing of Easter celebrations. Since then, the first Sunday after the first full moon in spring has been Easter Sunday. In Carinthia, the week before Easter is packed with all kinds of culinary and folk customs.
Not always just looking for eggs. Many preparations are already on the agenda during Holy Week: on Palm Sunday, the children carry their palm branches into the church for the blessing. These "Palmbuschen", as they are also known in the local dialect, are made from willow branches tied together to form long-handled brooms and are decorated with sweets and salted pretzels. Even if the origin of the name of this Holy Week day has nothing to do with the color, it is green on Maundy Thursday, when the traditional lunch consists of spinach with roasted potatoes and fried egg. After that, the church bells fall silent for three days. The silence is traditionally explained to children by saying that the bells fly to Rome. During this time, wooden rattles replace the ringing of the bells, which is the custom especially during the Good Friday processions. The importance of the rattle for the Carinthians is demonstrated by its inclusion in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The legendary Carinthian Easter snack:
Easter ham, horseradish and Reindling.
The typical Carinthian Easter snack features the classic Easter ham as well as other smoked sausages, bacon, smoked ham and beef tongue. But that alone does not make an Easter snack. First and foremost, the Carinthian Reindling should not be missing from the Easter basket. This traditional sweet pastry with a filling of sugar, cinnamon and raisins replaces wholemeal bread at Easter, adding the all-important sweet component to the Easter snack. The Reindling slices are eaten with ham and co. and served with horseradish. Add a hard-boiled Easter egg and the Easter snack is perfect. This salty-sweet-savory-hot taste experience would be unthinkable anywhere else in the calendar year. At Easter, however, this is exactly what makes a genuine Carinthian Easter snack.
