Lake Wörthersee and its surroundings.

Sophisticated, picturesque and unmistakable.

Just a short drive from the Karnerhof, Lake Wörthersee is picturesque and unmistakable. This is where the rich and famous used to meet when vacations were still called summer retreats. Almost 100 years ago, the lake was already a hotspot for artists, celebrities and aristocrats, competing with Monte Carlo and Saint-Tropez. Princesses and counts vacationed here, world-famous stars and starlets met up, and paparazzi took their constant pictures at Lake Wörthersee.

All around the lake, a trendy lifestyle in all shades is guaranteed: From countless gourmet restaurants with chilled lakeside terraces, cool events and trendy sports facilities to picturesque locations, it offers a unique stage for vacation selfies. A boat trip on Lake Wörthersee is also always worth a trip. The eventful journey with many beautiful views of the gentle shores with the classic Wörthersee architecture and the surrounding landscape is sure to make waves of enthusiasm. The regular service between Klagenfurt and Velden operates from mid-April to the end of October.

A special highlight is of course Austria's last screw steamboat, the Thalia. It was built in 1909, taken out of service in 1974 due to broken waves and put back into service in 1988 after extensive restoration. Since then, the Thalia has been faithfully serving its passengers. Of interest to all fans of soft mobility is the Maria Wörth electric boat, which has been gliding across Lake Wörthersee in an environmentally friendly manner since 2012.

Rosegg: Castle, zoo & labyrinth

Rosegg Castle, located halfway between Lake Faak and Lake Wörthersee, is always worth a visit. The neoclassical-style castle not only impresses with its architecture, but also with exciting stories from the past. The building is strongly reminiscent of the Italian "Brenta Villas", as Count Orsini spent several years in Italy and wanted to bring some Italian flair to Austria with this summer residence in the heart of Carinthia. The furniture and many of the furnishings date from this period. Rosegg Castle has been owned by the von und zu Liechtenstein family since 1831. Today it provides the setting for summer events, concerts, theater and houses the atmospheric castle café.

Rosegg Labyrinth

One of Austria's largest garden labyrinths was opened in July 2001 between Rosegg Castle and the Rosegg Wildlife Park. Over 3000 hornbeams form a hedge one kilometer long on an area of 2,400 square meters, giving the beautiful labyrinth its shape. The tower in the center serves as an orientation point and is also a beautiful photo motif with a magnificent view of the castle. The Rosegg labyrinth changes its appearance depending on the vegetation and season, making the attraction in the Rosental valley near Lake Wörthersee worth a visit in spring and fall too.

The Rosegg Zoo

Carinthia's largest animal park on the edge of the Karawanken mountains invites you to take a walk around the historic Burgberg. Visitors can discover countless animals on around 30 hectares. The spacious grounds with over 300 animals, many such as ibex, deer and peacocks roaming free within the grounds, are a wonderful experience for young and old. The paths are mostly suitable for baby carriages. The children's playground, which is located right next to the small animal zoo and the animal park buffet, is particularly popular with children. In addition to goats, donkeys and llamas, there are many other animals in the small animal zoo, which can even be fed.
